1. Cylinder Diameter: The Size of the Sock

The cylinder is the circular bed of needles that forms the sock tube. Its diameter (measured in inches) determines the finished size:

• 3.5"–4" cylinders: kids and ankle socks
• 4"–4.5" cylinders: women's and standard crew socks
• 5"–6" cylinders: men's, compression, and thermal socks

2. Needle Gauge: The Detail Level
